In Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, private engineering seats are divided into two broad groups: convener quota seats, filled through state counselling based on the state engineering entrance, and B category seats, the management quota filled by the colleges under state rules.
Convener quota
- Telangana — filled through TG EAPCET counselling.
- Andhra Pradesh — filled through AP EAPCET counselling.
These seats are allotted on entrance rank at the fee fixed for the college, with eligibility conditions defined by each state.
B category (management) seats
B category seats in private engineering colleges are filled by the institution under rules issued by the state's higher education authority. The rules typically set:
- Merit order — priority based on JEE Main rank, then the state EAPCET rank, then qualifying exam marks, depending on the year's rules.
- Application process — through the college's own notification or an online process prescribed by the state.
- Fees — the fee approved for the college.
- Reporting — admissions reported to the authorities for approval.
A share of B category seats is often earmarked for NRI or NRI-sponsored candidates.
How to apply safely
- Read the state's B category notification for the year.
- Apply directly to the college through its published notice.
- Ask for the merit list and your position in it.
- Pay only the approved fee to the college's official account.
- Get a receipt and an admission order.
