Karnataka has one of the largest pools of private and deemed medical and dental seats in India, which makes it a common choice for families looking at management and NRI seats. Admission runs through two systems, and knowing which one controls a college is the first step.
Two systems in one state
- Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) — conducts the state's NEET-UG counselling for government seats and for seats in private medical and dental colleges affiliated to the state health sciences university, in the categories set out in that year's seat matrix (such as government quota, private and NRI seats).
- MCC — conducts counselling for all seats in Karnataka's deemed universities, including their management and NRI seats, alongside the all-India quota of government colleges.
So a private college affiliated to the state university is reached through KEA, while a deemed university in Karnataka is reached through MCC. Read deemed university MBBS through MCC.
Eligibility
- A qualifying NEET-UG score for every category — there is no exception for private or NRI seats.
- For government quota seats, Karnataka's own eligibility clauses (such as study or residence conditions) apply; read them carefully in the KEA bulletin.
- For private and NRI categories, the bulletin specifies who may apply, including whether candidates from other states are eligible in that year.
Step-by-step with KEA
- Register on the KEA portal within the UGNEET window and pay the fee.
- Choose the categories you are eligible for, including private and NRI seats where applicable.
- Complete document verification as KEA specifies.
- Fill and lock choices; check allotments with your own login.
- Pay fees through the official process and report to the college within the deadline.

Fees
Fees for each category in Karnataka's private colleges are notified for the year and appear in the KEA documents. Deemed university fees come through MCC. Compare the total cost for the whole course, not just the first year. Read how to read a management quota fee notice.
Engineering in Karnataka
Engineering follows a different pattern, with KCET (through KEA) and COMEDK UGET for private colleges. Read Karnataka BTech admission: KCET and COMEDK.
